UNITED WAY 1999 ALLOCATIONS To become a United Way agency, a local organization must demonstrate how it provides vital social services to the people of Whitman County and the Palouse region. To receive funding, the agency then participates in the annual United Way allocation process. Each year, an all-volunteer committee from United Way of Pullman evaluates each agency's performance over the past year as part of this allocation process. Agencies are also invited to make a presentation of their plans and financial needs for the year ahead to the allocation committee. Based on each agency's results, plans for the coming year and funding requests, the committee prepares its recommendations to the full United Way of Pullman Board of Directors, which makes the final decisions. The board most recently allocated a total of $108,400 from the 1999 campaign to its 18 member agencies. Allocations ranged from $1,000 to $12,000, based on the needs presented. The average allocation was $6,000. In most cases, the agency requests were either met or exceeded. If you have questions about United Way of Pullman allocations, please contact Debbie Sherman, Executive Director, at UnitedWay@pullman-wa.com or call 334-4015, or contact a board member. We look forward to talking with you about United Way. |
