Science Hall Greenhouse (Science Hall 705-716)

 The Science Hall Greenhouse is a 4000 square foot aluminum and glass rooftop facility occupying the seventh floor of Science Hall.  The greenhouse was built in two phases in 1985 and 1989. It consists of nine independently controlled compartments. One large compartment (2400 ft.sq.) is used to house a portion of the permanent botanical teaching collection and for growing seasonal instructional plant material.  The remaining eight rooms are all 180 sq. ft. in size. All rooms have independent temperature and lighting controls.  The eight small compartments are predominantly used for research endeavors.  All rooms are controlled by electronic analog controllers. This greenhouse has alarm capabilities continuously monitored by WSU Facilities Operations.  Other features include automatic irrigation and fertilizer injection.

A Campbell Scientific 21x Micrologger is used for the collection of greenhouse environmental data. Temperature, light intensity and photoperiod data are collected and stored in a spread sheet format.  The datalogging system is capable of collecting relative humidity data as well. Should a researcher have need for R.H. data, arrangements can be made to gather such information via the greenhouse manager.
