About this token:
- Rusty writes: The three-ring sign was the Ballentine logo; legend says Peter Ballentine picked up his glass and set it down three times leaving three rings. He then decided to use the logo for his beer. The item you have is a ball marker used by golfers when cleaning their ball on the green; they are likely from the late 50's or 60's.
- Mark writes: I first saw this token as a kid at the golf course in the 50's. They were a giveaway by the Ballantine Ale company and used as golf ball markers.
- eBay auctions have listed several signs and other advertising items for "Ballentine Ale & Beer", whose logo contains these words and the linked rings symbol. The items I've seen have dated from the 1940's to the 1960's.
